Summer Immersion Camp 2012
French July 23-27 ~ Spanish July 30-August 3
Cheryl has designed these Summer Camp Immersion Programs in both French & Spanish for children ages 6-11. The focus of the camps are culture, conversation, and understanding the “foreign” world around us. These programs were first created in 2004 and have explored the globe from Haiti, Togo and Madagascar to Peru, Mexico and Costa Rica and beyond!!
All activities are group inclusive as they learn to speak the target language, play games traditional to the countries studied for the week while Cheryl incorporates diversified learning through the Gardner Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
The format of the Immersion Week includes the study of a different country each day where the target language is the country’s’ first spoken language. We begin the day with introductions, greetings & typical daily conversations. A typical native art activity from the “country of the day” is presented. Students also learn to prepare & cook typical snack foods to eat after morning recess while learning table manners in the target language. Games, songs, puzzles, paper artwork, worksheets and flags also are a part of the day’s activities. On Friday, parents join us for a museum showing of all activities of the week. All artifacts created go home with students at the end of the program.
